A ship load of culture!

THE BRIEF

An independent, Hull-based live entertainment business came to us in search of a cohesive brand identity that would tie together its live entertainment venues, events promotion and ticketing businesses across the city.

The company was heavily involved in the 2017 City of Culture celebrations, and wanted a strong, concept-driven identity to act as an umbrella brand for its future development and expansion.

THE RESULT

After coming up with a selection of creative concepts, names and straplines, we agreed on Ark. The concept draws inspiration from the animal-inspired nature of the company’s existing branding and also has a sense of place, reflecting the nautical heritage of Hull as a city.

We also developed a versatile new strapline ‘A ship load of’, reflecting the cheeky, counter-culture personality of the business, whilst alluding to the nautical sense of the brand. The logo and graphic elements looks to strike a balance between the company’s core music business and the sea – with sound waves and a hybrid plectrum/ark hull inspired logo.
